Emmaus Place is an eight-unit apartment home for retired priests of the Bismarck Diocese. Conveniently located in Bismarck, North Dakota, it allows easy access to shopping, restaurants, medical facilities and entertainment.
Living Quarters
The “house” consists of separate apartment units with kitchenettes, a living room, bedroom and bathroom. Every unit has access to the beautiful and peaceful grounds.
Several common areas consisting of a chapel, living room, recreational room, wellness center, kitchen and dining room connect the house and its priests to each other every day. Communal lunch and supper meals are offered Monday through Friday, and laundry and cleaning services are included. Two, four-unit garages are attached to the house.

Opened in 1986, Emmaus Place continues to be supported by generous donor bequests, the Endowment for Retired Priests and the annual God’s Share Appeal. Staying Active
Retired priests that make Emmaus Place their home, live independently, often continue to “work” by saying Mass at senior living facilities and substituting for traveling priests. They also frequently receive visits from parishioners, seminarians and brother priests offering friendship, guidance and counseling. Anyone wishing to contact one of our priests for the sacraments of reconciliation, anointing of the sick or to say Mass for a loved one can contact the house director.
Whether it be a Diocesan or community event, staff and residents will organize outings or transportation so that our priests can participate. Various times throughout the year, the house will host meals and activities for guests.
The treasured gifts that are our retired priests continue to pray for all members of the diocese and actively serve our communities. Consider offering prayers for their wellness and gratitude for their lifetime of service to the Catholic Church.
